Helping People Follow Jesus
Highland commits nearly one fifth of its budget to missions each year. At Highland, we support more than fifty missionaries and their families serving through twenty different mission sending agencies in over twenty countries around the world (as indicated in dark purple on the map below). We also sponsor a number of short-term trips each year to destinations as near as the Rio Grande Valley to as far as Eastern Europe and North Africa.
At Highland, we believe missions is the activity of God in this world to bring glory to Himself. As we join with God in this mission, we become missionaries. Missionary activity is not defined by geographic location, nor is it limited to one particular occupation. Mission work is to care for people and share the love of Jesus Christ with them. We at Highland want all believers to be involved in God's purposes in the world, regardless of location. In order to help our congregation stay involved in mission work, we offer local outreach opportunities, short term trips both near and far, and church-wide missions education.Highland's missions budget and missions strategy is managed by the missions committee, a group of twelve to fifteen church members selected by the church elders. Each member of the committee serves for one five-year term.
